White Sage Essential Oil – Salvia apiana – is steam distilled using the intensely pungent leaves and tops of the plant. The oil has a yellow hue and is quite light in texture.
The common names for this oil are Bee Sage and Sacred Sage.
The origin of our White Sage Essential Oil is the USA where it grows abundantly on the western seaboard from California to north Mexico.
This camphoraceous essential oil can be referred to as being quite powerful, having been used for many years for its known ceremonial purposes by the American Indians using the plant as smudge sticks. The plant is bound and lit to set the smoke to clear negative energy in areas of unknown spiritual influences.
This ceremony has been taken to attract positive energy. Many people smoke a house which has been occupied previously to clear the air in rooms.
For the purpose of clearing the air by using the oil and not smudge sticks, diffuse 4-6 drops of White Sage Essential Oil. If the aroma is too strong, try blending with citrus oils – lemon or orange or a base note like cedarwood or sandalwood
White Sage can be used as a decongestant due to it camphoraceous qualities. The oil is also used to treat insect bites addressing pain and inflammation of the wound.
Sage Oil has been known to address stress and anxiety, even depression. A possibility is to inhale the oil before a difficult exam or when facing a situation which brings on nervousness. Use the oil in the car to keep alert and fresh though keep to only a few drops. But like any oils, we are all different so use your oil to your own preferences.
Store your White Sage oil below 30c out of the reach of children. The oil is not to betaken and seek advice from your Aromatherapist if you are pregnant.
