Tangerine Oil – Citrus reticulata – is processed by cold pressing the skins after the juice has been extracted.
Like all citrus oils, they are not considered true essential oils as they are cold pressed from the skins of the fruit.
The oil contains limonene which can be seen as having anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties.
Tangerine Oil works very well in a diffuser to clear the air of unwanted fumes. Sometimes used in kitchens, bathrooms or toilets to remove unwanted smells and to freshen the area with the crisp sweet citrus aroma.
Tangerine oil is a useful oil for blending with almost any other essential oil, specifically those which are better diluted to remove their strong aroma like clove, Ylang Ylang or rose geranium essential oils.
Don’t be shy in experimenting in blending your oils for aroma purposes as there are some wonderful aromas which can be developed using citrus oils including Tangerine Oil.
Most of our citrus oils are accompanied with signed documentation as food grade which means they can be used in food – not to be placed in cold water for drinking however. Oil sits on the top of water, it does not dissolve and as these oils are highly concentrated they can do damage to your organs like the liver over time.
