Spearmint Essential Oil is very popular with children or young people mainly due to its fresh, sweet spearmint aroma – a reminder of the milk-shake days and bubble-gum which makes this oil well adapted the be used on young children rather than the stronger peppermint oil.
As a contrast to the stimulation which can be experienced when inhaling Spearmint oil, it has been known to assist in the treatment of asthma as it can relax muscles and nerves. There needs to be more research before delivering a finite statement on that fact.
Spearmint oil is known to be a mild antiseptic. It’s effect is less than Peppermint essential oil, although it is often used as a substitute. And like Peppermint essential oil, Spearmint can help to provide relief from stress and head aches specifically if diffused in a humidifier.
For a bit of fun, blend this oil with Cajeput essential oil to make a sensational decongestant either in a diffuser or in a small amount of carrier oil and rub into hands and inhale.
With a small drop of Spearmint essential oil in a carrier oil of your choice, when smeared on to the skin with a carrier oil, can keep mosquitoes away.
Please be advised to keep your Spearmint oil away from the reach of children (especially as this oil is very attractive to young tastes), store in a cool, dry place below 30° and do not ingest. Seek advice for use if pregnant.
