Patchouli essential oil – Pogostemon cablin – (Laminiaceae) is processed from a bushy herb of the mint family, cultivated in tropical environments. Our Patchouli oil comes from close to Java, Indonesia where some of the best Patchouli is grown in sustainably managed plantations. Patchouli is managed as an integrated crop with tree plantations as an understorey being shade tolerant. The benefits of community involvement in these plantations are extensive as diversification of income and environmental repair flows back to the rural sector.
Originally used to scent linen and clothes, as an incense, perfume, in religious ceremonies and was popular a herb to help prevent disease. Patchouli Essential Oil is produced from steam distillation of the leaves, drawing a deep earthy aroma used to aid in addressing personal ailments from depression to inflammation, anxiety and stress. Patchouli oil is a reminder of the early ‘hippy days’ where the oil was very popular in body balms and for diffusing. Try our Patchouli oil in a diffuser with citrus oils and sandalwood. Patchouli essential oil blends well with other oils including eucalyptus. A few drops included in some of our essential oil blends and used in a vaporiser gives an added degree of deep sensual healing, rest and hopefully sleep will follow. Sometimes considered a masculine oil as it delivers a soft woody aroma which works well in a beard oil, or in a massage oil with your favourite carrier oil. Patchouli is also known to be a good fixative in hand made soaps and perfumes.
Use your Patchouli Essential Oil sparingly and it will last you a long time. Store below 30C and keep out of the reach of children. Do not ingest. Seek advice for use if pregnant.
