Oregano Essential Oil – Origanum vulgare – is steam distilled from the leaves of the Oregano herb. Oregano is a very versatile herb which grows in many places but best suited to higher altitudes to produce the finer oil.
Oregano Essential Oil contains carvacrol, a plant chemical compound which aids it in being an effective antiseptic and anti-microbial agent. This oil has been used for centuries for this purpose specifically in countries of the Mediterranean region.
Oregano oil has many uses including easing the discomfort of mild pain, assisting the immune system when suffering from colds and flu and as it contains a large amount of anti-oxidants, is known to aid as an anti-bacterial when applied topically.
Oregano oil is known to assist in the sometimes challenging times of women’s menstrual cycle. It has been known as a gentle sedative by massaging a small amount of oil in a carrier oil on the lower belly region when in the pre-menstrual phase.
Oregano oil has been known to treat fungal ailments topically by applying to the area with a carrier oil like hemp.
Use your Oregano Essential Oil with care as it is highly concentrated and therefore keep out of the reach of children. Store your oil below 30° and seek medical advice if pregnant. Not to be taken.
Warning – do not try this oil if prescribed by a person who is not an Aromatherapist or who is not well versed in the use of essential oils. By ‘placing a few raw drops under the tongue’ has been known to cause esophageal burns which is most unpleasant and needs to be treated by drinking a non-alkaline substance like milk.
