Catnip Essential Oil – Nepata cataria – is a lesser known essential oil which has been steam distilled from the leaves of the Cat Mint. This plant has a reputation of causing cats to hallucinate on the aroma and so does the essential oil so do not use this oil in the house if you have cats as pets.

Catnip has known medicinal properties, mainly as a stimulant although surprisingly, the oil has documented facts on it being effective in addressing issues related to insomnia, stress and anxiety.

This interesting essential oil is a useful addition to your oil collection although may not be used as much if you own cats as they tend to be very easily stimulated by this oil.
