Blue Tansy Essential Oil – Tanacetum annuum – is steam distilled from its yellow rounded flowers and buds. The oil it produces is a vibrant blue as it contains the chemical compound chamazulene which when released during distillation, brings a vibrant blue colour to the oil. Blue Cypress essential oil from Australia and German Blue Chamomile has a similar colour from the same properties of chamazulene.
In the past, Blue Tansy Essential Oil was distilled from the wild harvested flowers in the Mediterranean region but now there are large cultivations in Morocco from where our Blue Tansy oil is produced.
Like most of the ‘Blue’ oils, Blue Tansy Essential Oil is known to be an effective anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal and its anti-histamine. It also assists in repairing various skin conditions like eczema and acne and when blended in a pure cream, can be very soothing.
Blue Tansy’s aroma is described as a middle note and is quite specific in it’s delivery with a light herbaceous note, slightly sweet with subtle floral undertones.
Blue Tansy is known to be well suited to blends which address sore muscles and aches.
Blue Tansy blends well with many essential oils but not often used in diffusers without a partner like a citrus or even a lavender.
Major chemical compounds: sabinene, chamazulene.
